Police have launched investigations into the sudden death of veteran gynaecologist and Nairobi Hospital director, Dr Job Obwaka, as new details emerge surrounding his final moments.
Authorities have arrested a 45-year-old woman, identified as Beatrice Wangari, who is believed to have been the last person seen with the 83 year old medic before his death.
She was taken into custody on Saturday morning as a person of interest, with detectives seeking to piece together events leading up to the incident.
According to an incident report filed at Kilimani Police Station, Dr Obwaka collapsed on Friday evening while in Kitengela, where he had reportedly gone on personal errands in the company of Wangari, said to be a business associate.
He was rushed to Nairobi Hospital by ambulance at around 7:00 p.m., but medical personnel confirmed that he was dead on arrival.
Officers who visited the hospital established that the deceased had a history of underlying medical conditions, though the exact cause of death remains unclear pending further investigations.
Dr Obwaka’s body has since been moved to Lee Funeral Home, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted to determine the cause of death.
