If approved by the U.S. Senate, Wooster will replace former ambassador Meg Whitman and become Washington's top envoy in Nairobi.
A career diplomat with more than 30 years of experience, Wooster has built a reputation handling high-stakes assignments in some of the world's most challenging regions. He currently serves as Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince, where he oversees American diplomatic efforts amid ongoing political and security turmoil.
Before that, he served as U.S. Ambassador to Jordan and held senior roles at the U.S. State Department, helping shape American policy across the Middle East and North Africa.
Wooster's diplomatic footprint spans several global hotspots, including postings in Baghdad, Moscow, Islamabad, and Paris.
Away from diplomacy, Wooster served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 24 years, including as a Special Forces officer. He holds degrees from Amherst College and Yale University and speaks French and Russian, with working knowledge of Arabic, Persian and Aramaic.
His nomination comes as Kenya and the United States continue to deepen ties on security, trade and regional stability, placing Wooster at the center of one of Washington's most important partnerships in Africa.
